General Summary
Do you have a passion for shaping the future of parks and public spaces? As the Manager of Parks Strategic Planning & Performance, you will lead the vision, strategy, and execution behind Oakland County Parks’ next era of growth and modernization. In this high-impact leadership role, you’ll oversee planning, budgeting, and performance initiatives that support more than 7,000 acres of parks, facilities, and recreation spaces. Working collaboratively with County leadership, local governments, and community partners, you’ll ensure that Oakland County Parks continues to deliver exceptional experiences and lasting value for residents.
What You’ll Do:
Oversee the strategic planning, budgeting, and performance management functions of the Parks & Recreation system.
Collaborate with local governments, community partners, and County departments to align park development with community needs.
Lead master planning efforts, manage capital and operational budgets, and identify alternative funding opportunities.
Represent the Parks Division at Commission and Board meetings, presenting recommendations and updates on performance outcomes.

Requirements
Required Minimum Qualifications
At the time of application, applicants must:
 
1. Possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a preferred major in Recreation and Park Administration, Park and Recreation Management, Park and Recreation Resources, Planning, Urban Planning, Conservation Planning, Sustainability, Business Administration, Public Administration, or closely related field.
 
2. Have had at least five (5) years of full-time work experience as supervisor of a major park or recreation facility or department.
 
NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the fields described above, may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
3. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before hire date.
 
4. Pass the complete examination including the employment medical, established for this classification.
 
5. Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
Special Requirements
Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
