- Recreation Programmer
Description
The Recreation Programmer within the Greenville Area Recreation & Community Center assists with the operation of sports leagues, camps, classes, and events for the Greenville Area Recreation & Community Center. The Recreation Programmer is responsible for the planning, marketing, and supervision of activities. Additionally, this position will assist the director with administrative tasks when necessary.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Greenville Area Recreation & Community Center Director.
Requirements
An employee in this classification may be called upon to do any or all of the following (these examples do not include all of the tasks that the employee may be expected to perform):
- Assist with the development of a comprehensive recreational program for the GARCC including sports, activities, and special events.
- Oversee the organization, operations, and activities of all youth sports leagues; create new leagues and youth recreational programs for all segments of the community.
- Directly hire, train, supervise and evaluate seasonal, part-time, and/or contracted youth recreation employees and volunteers; assist with the hiring, training, and supervision of support staff.
- Work to improve staff performance, correct deficiencies, and implement discipline procedures.
- Assist with advertising, marketing, and fundraising.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
- Assist with purchasing and inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Monitor program budgets; make recommendations for future planning and budgeting and maintain quarterly reports for all programs.
- Assist with payroll and produce payments for contracted employees.
- Assist the Site Supervisors with supervision of all youth leagues & programs, and special events during and after normal office hours.
- Prepare and implement a marketing plan for all programs.
- Maintain organized records for programs, special events, purchase orders, budgets, contracts, and other pertinent information.
- Develop and implement surveys and present data upon completion.
- Update the department website and assist efforts to remain current with social media outlets.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Greenville Area Recreation & Community Center Director.
Required qualifications for employment:
- Commitment to the value of quality programs.
- Ability to anticipate and perceive the types of activities that interest patrons.
- Youth and/or adult group activity planning experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively with fellow employees in a team-based environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to effectively carry out tasks independently.
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook, Canva; proficient with RecPro preferred but not required.
- Reliable, energetic, and good customer service skills.
- Preferred candidate will have at least 1-year program experience in recreation/youth sports and a degree in Recreation or a related field.
